Seven Layer Army Skateboards (SLA) started with friends skating in a small town called Laveen, located 30 minutes south of downtown Phoenix, Arizona.
Independently, SLA was born within the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC ), more predominantly the Maricopa Colony, District 7, and driven by one vision: to find skaters of all kinds and bring them together to do one thing: Skateboard.
Established in 2008, Seven Layer is still building momentum within GRIC through collaboration with local behavioral health programs, the Mul-Chu-Tha Fair, and in conjunction with local community events looking to reach out to a particular age demographic through skateboarding.
Paul Molina (Maricopa Colony D7) and Reuben Ringlero (Komatke D6) host local skate contests throughout GRIC and the surrounding towns and communities of Arizona. Both encourage youth to practice proper safety while skateboarding.
Each competition brings young people/teens and adults together to compete against one another for prizes. Age ranges from 7-9, 10-15, and 16-up. Also, families of the skateboarders are encouraged to support their youth/teen in entering and, most of all, have fun at each skate competition.
